The Department of Fish and Wildlife's Northern Region is seeking a motivated individual to work as a Fish and Wildlife Seasonal Aid at our Trinity River Hatchery.

Trinity River Hatchery is looking for an enthusiastic, self motivated individual to join the CDFW family. This is a Seasonal position with possible career advancement throughout the State of California. This position will give you an opportunity to assist in the spawning of Hatchery and Native fish, develop fish culture skills caring for eggs and fish at various stages of development,feeding of fish,cleaning ponds troughs and deep tanks, keeping record of fish losses. Throughout the season, you will engage in the care and maintenance of Trinity River Hatchery, weed eating,mowing, pruning vegetation,hauling and disposal, to service and maintain the landscape and beauty of the Hatchery.

The Fish and Wildlife Seasonal Aid classification is a non-testing classification.

• Applicants who receive public assistance under the CalWORKs program shall be given hiring priority consideration as provided in Government Code, Section 19063.

• Applicants who receive public assistance need to identify themselves as CalWORKs recipients in the comments section of the STD 678, Examination/Employment Application.

• Applicants must submit verification of CalWORKs eligibility, which may include the most recent Notice of Action showing Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF) eligibility or a copy of the most recent aid check stub.

• Applicants may obtain verification from the CalWORKs program. If CalWORKs verification is not submitted with the application, it will not be processed as CalWORKs eligible.

• Participation by a public assistance recipient is voluntary and in no event shall any person be subject to sanctions, through loss of benefits or eligibility, for not applying for, accepting, or continuing in a seasonal or entry level non-testing classification opening.

Working Conditions

Incumbent will be required to stand for long periods of time in cold water, unheated buildings, and work in extreme weather conditions. Weekend duties will be required on a rotational basis; days off may be other than Saturday and Sunday. Willingness to work unusual hours and holidays; willingness to perform varied manual tasks and willingness to wear a prescribed uniform. Use of a state-owned vehicle for travel is required between remote facilities and field sites where public transportation is not readily available. State owned housing is not available and is not required as a condition of employment. This position may require occasional day travel, and occasional overnight travel up to 5 days based on business needs.


Special Requirements

Physical strength and agility; ability to lift 40 pounds; ability to swim 50 yards and stay afloat at least five (5) minutes.

This position requires possession of a valid Class C Driver's License. Must maintain a clean driving record. The selected candidate may be required to provide a photocopy (front and back) of the license: Name as stated on the license, issuing state, DL #, Class, expiration.

In addition to evaluating each candidate's relative ability, as demonstrated by quality and breadth of experience, the following factors will provide the basis for competitively evaluating each candidate:

Demonstrated knowledge of, interest in, and aptitude for fish and wildlife conservation and repair and maintenance work; willingness to live and work throughout the State; willingness to work unusual hours and on Saturdays, Sundays, and holidays; willingness to perform varied manual tasks; willingness to work in adverse weather conditions; willingness to wear a prescribed uniform.

Good driving record and education equivalent to completion of the twelfth grade.

Experience using MS Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook).
