Position Type: Contract (1099 Contractor)

Reports to: Program Manager

Location: Dallas–Fort Worth, Texas (Must reside in DFW area)

Travel: Required travel to various community and partner sites throughout the Dallas–Fort Worth region

Funding Source: Not grant funded

Purpose of Position

The Contract Zumba Instructor is responsible for delivering engaging, safe, and professional Zumba fitness classes to participants at designated Healthier Texas partner locations and community sites.

This position is strictly instructional in nature and does not include responsibilities related to participant recruitment, program promotion, or relationship management.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities

Instruction and Class Delivery (90%)

• Conduct in-person Zumba classes at assigned community and partner sites throughout the Dallas–Fort Worth area

• Deliver safe, effective, and engaging Zumba instruction aligned with Zumba® program standards

• Ensure participant safety by following appropriate fitness and safety protocols

• Arrive prepared and on time for all scheduled classes

• Modify instruction as appropriate to accommodate varying fitness levels and participant needs

• Maintain a professional and inclusive environment for all participants

Administrative and Coordination Duties (10%)

• Coordinate scheduling and logistics with Healthier Texas staff

• Maintain current Zumba certification and provide documentation upon request

• Complete any required attendance tracking or basic reporting as requested

• Communicate promptly with Healthier Texas staff regarding scheduling, availability, or issues impacting class delivery

Education Requirements

• High School Diploma or GED (Required)

Experience Requirements

• 1+ years of group fitness instruction experience, Zumba instruction preferred (Required)

Certifications and Licensure

• Current Zumba® Instructor Certification (Required)

• CPR/AED Certification (Preferred)

Additional Requirements

• Must reside in the Dallas–Fort Worth, Texas area

• Must be willing and able to travel to multiple sites within the Dallas–Fort Worth region

• Must maintain active Zumba certification throughout the duration of the contract

• Must be authorized to work in the United States

FLSA Status

Contractor (1099); not an employee of Healthier Texas

Independent Contractor Classification

This position is classified as an independent contractor (1099) role and not as an employee of Healthier Texas. The individual engaged in this role is responsible for determining the manner and means by which services are performed, consistent with the agreed-upon class schedule and program requirements.

The contractor is not eligible for employee benefits, including but not limited to health insurance, retirement benefits, paid time off, unemployment insurance, or workers’ compensation coverage through Healthier Texas.

The contractor is solely responsible for all federal, state, and local taxes arising from compensation received, including self-employment taxes, and will receive IRS Form 1099 as applicable.

Nothing in this job description shall be construed to create an employer–employee relationship, partnership, joint venture, or agency relationship. The contractor has no authority to bind or represent Healthier Texas in any capacity unless expressly authorized in writing.

The contractor is responsible for maintaining all required certifications, licenses, and insurance necessary to perform services, including professional liability insurance if required by Healthier Texas or applicable partner sites.
