Position Summary
The Akron Zoo is seeking a creative and motivated Graphic Design Intern to support visual communications and storytelling across the organization during the summer 2026 season. This internship provides hands-on professional experience working alongside the marketing team to create engaging visual content that supports zoo programs, guest experiences, marketing initiatives, and conservation messaging.
The primary responsibility of this role is assisting with graphic design projects, including print materials, signage, and digital content. The intern will gain real-world experience contributing to projects seen by thousands of zoo guests and online audiences.
Essential Responsibilities
Support with graphic design projects and report to the zoo’s senior graphic designer
Support production of print and digital materials
Assist in the design and layout of:
Brochures and educational booklets
Exhibit and guest-facing signage
Flyers and promotional materials
Media announcements and marketing collateral
Social media graphics and digital content
Collaborate with the marketing team on creative projects
Prepare files for print and digital distribution
Maintain brand consistency across projects
Requirements
Currently enrolled in an accredited college or university, or a recent graduate
Preferred majors: Graphic Design, Visual Communication, or related field
Working knowledge of Adobe Creative Cloud, including:
Adobe InDesign
Adobe Illustrator
Adobe Photoshop
Understanding of fundamental design principles, including:
Typography
Color theory
Page layout and composition
Strong attention to detail and organizational skills
Ability to collaborate and accept creative feedback
Interest in conservation, education, or nonprofit communications is a plus
Available May through August 2026
Commitment of 20 hours per week
Must comply with Akron Zoo policies and onboarding requirements
