Painter I (Entry-Level Production Painter)

Location: [Confidential / Riverside, CA if applicable]
Employment Type: Full-Time
Pay Range: $22.50 $26.00 per hour

Position Summary

The Painter I is an entry-level production role responsible for assisting with the preparation, painting, and finishing of large vehicle bodies, frames, panels, and components. This position supports the paint department by performing surface preparation and basic coating application tasks while learning proper industrial painting techniques and safety standards used in heavy vehicle manufacturing.

Key Responsibilities Surface Preparation

• Prepare bus bodies, panels, frames, and components for paint application

• Perform sanding, cleaning, masking, and priming

• Support preparation of large-scale assemblies such as bus shells, roof sections, doors, and structural components

Paint Application

• Assist with application of industrial coatings, primers, and topcoats using spray equipment and hand tools under supervision

• Follow paint specifications, color codes, work instructions, and production schedules

• Mix, label, handle, and store paint materials according to company and manufacturer guidelines

Quality & Inspection

• Inspect painted surfaces for basic defects (runs, dry spray, fisheyes, incomplete coverage)

• Perform minor touch-ups as directed

• Maintain awareness of finish quality standards

Safety & Housekeeping

• Maintain cleanliness of paint booths, mixing rooms, and surrounding areas

• Comply with all safety, environmental, and regulatory requirements

• Wear required PPE at all times

• Report equipment malfunctions, material issues, or safety concerns

Required Qualifications

• 1 2 years of experience in surface preparation, painting, or finishing preferred

• Entry-level candidates with industrial or automotive painting exposure are encouraged to apply

• Ability to follow detailed work instructions and quality standards

• Strong attention to detail and finish quality

• Basic mechanical aptitude

• Team-oriented with strong reliability and work ethic

• Willingness to accept coaching and on-the-job training

Physical & Work Environment Requirements

• Ability to stand and walk for extended periods

• Ability to lift up to 40 lbs

• Comfortable working at heights using platforms or ladders (with training)

• Ability to work in paint booths while wearing full PPE

• Exposure to noise, fumes, and varying temperatures in a manufacturing environment
