Position Overview:

We are seeking a skilled and detail-oriented Land Survey Crew Chief to join our team. As a Land Survey Crew Chief at CAGE Civil Engineering, you will lead a survey crew to perform various surveying tasks for civil engineering projects. Your role involves ensuring accurate data collection, conducting different types of surveys, and maintaining high standards of quality.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Conduct construction layout, ALTA surveys, topographic, boundary, and as-built surveys.
  • Be flexible to work individually or lead and supervise a field survey crew.
  • Operate and maintain surveying equipment, including Trimble GPS and robotics.
  • Accurately record and document survey data.
  • Coordinate with survey project managers and engineers to meet survey needs.
  • Ensure compliance with safety policies.
  • Train and mentor junior crew members.
  • Stay updated with the latest surveying technologies and methodologies.

Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or equivalent; an associate degree in surveying or related field preferred.
  • Minimum of 5 years of land surveying experience, with at least 2 years in a supervisory role.
  • Proficiency in using total stations, GPS equipment, and data collectors.
  • Strong understanding of survey principles and practices.
  • Ability to read and interpret engineering plans.
  • Detail-oriented with strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
  • Valid driver's license and ability to travel to various project sites.
  • Excellent attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Ability to read and interpret survey notes, maps, and construction plans.
  • Strong organizational and time-management skills.
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work independently as well as part of a team.
  • Familiarity with GPS, total station, and other surveying instruments is a plus.
  • Physical ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds.
  • Ability to perform physical activities such as bending, twisting, squatting, lifting, and moving objects of up to 50 pounds across various terrains.
  • Ability to stand for extended periods and perform repetitive tasks.
  • Knowledge of and compliance with OSHA safety standards and regulations.
  • Adherence to Illinois Department of Labor regulations and federal employment laws, including non-discrimination policies.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with AutoCAD Civil 3D and other surveying software is a plus.
  • Familiarity with local, state, and federal surveying regulations.

Rewarding Compensation

  • Compensation: $32-$42/hr
  • The hourly range provided is a general guideline. Final compensation will be based on factors such as experience, qualifications, skills, and overall alignment with the role and company needs.
