Job Description

Position Title: Culinary Purchaser

Department: Culinary / Food & Beverage

Reports To: Executive Chef / Food & Beverage Director

Job Summary:

The Culinary Purchaser for a country club is responsible for sourcing, ordering, and managing all food, beverage, and kitchen-related supplies to support daily dining operations, banquets, and member events. This role ensures consistent quality, cost control, and timely delivery while maintaining the high standards expected in a private club environment.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Source and procure high-quality food products, beverages, and kitchen supplies from approved vendors
  • Collaborate closely with the Executive Chef to forecast needs for à la carte dining, banquets, weddings, and special events
  • Maintain appropriate inventory levels to support multiple outlets (restaurant, bar, pool, golf events, etc.)
  • Evaluate vendor pricing, negotiate contracts, and seek cost-saving opportunities without compromising quality
  • Inspect deliveries to ensure freshness, quality, and accuracy
  • Manage inventory systems, track usage, and minimize waste and spoilage
  • Maintain detailed records of purchases, invoices, and product specifications
  • Ensure proper storage and rotation of all goods (FIFO practices)
  • Monitor food and beverage costs and assist in budget management
  • Stay informed on seasonal availability, specialty items, and member preferences
  • Ensure compliance with health, safety, and club standards

Required Skills & Qualifications:

  • Strong knowledge of food products, including premium and seasonal ingredients
  • Understanding of country club operations, including banquets and high-volume events
  • Excellent vendor negotiation and relationship management skills
  • Strong organizational and inventory control abilities
  • High attention to detail and commitment to quality
  • Proficiency in purchasing/inventory software and Microsoft Excel
  • Ability to multitask and adapt to changing event schedules
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills

Working Conditions:

  • Combination of office, kitchen, and storage areas
  • Early mornings required for receiving deliveries
  • Fast-paced environment, especially during peak season and large events
  • Ability to lift and move items up to 50 lbs

Education & Experience:

  • High school diploma or equivalent required
  • Degree in Culinary Arts, Hospitality Management, or Business preferred
  • 2–4 years of experience in purchasing, preferably in a country club, hotel, or upscale dining environment
  • Previous kitchen or culinary experience is highly desirable

Preferred Attributes:

  • Experience working in private clubs or luxury hospitality settings
  • Knowledge of banquet and event planning needs
