Title: Director of Marketing & Communications

Reports to: CEO; partners closely with senior leadership.

Status : Full-time, exempt

Location: Hybrid/Remote, proximity to Oxford, Ohio headquarters a plus (Cincinnati, OH; Dayton, OH, Indianapolis, IN)

Summary/Objective:

Phi Kappa Tau is seeking a Director of Marketing & Communications to lead and execute the Fraternity’s national communications strategy.

This role is responsible for both setting direction and delivering results. The Director establishes the communications roadmap, defines campaign architecture, manages budget and performance reporting, and ensures brand alignment across channels. At the same time, this role personally leads the development of high-impact content and core storytelling initiatives.

Success in this position requires a balance of strategic thinking and hands-on execution. The Director will shape the voice of Phi Kappa Tau while also producing meaningful work that reaches undergraduates, alumni, and volunteers nationwide.

Position Responsibilities:

Communications Strategy & Planning

  • Support the efforts of the Phi Kappa Tau Strategic Plan and align organization with industry trends.
  • Develop and lead the annual and quarterly communications plan
  • Build and maintain the master editorial and campaign calendar
  • Design messaging frameworks that support recruitment, member engagement, and brand growth
  • Establish clear priorities and allocate resources accordingly
  • Define and track key performance indicators aligned with organizational goals
  • Present concise, data-informed performance reporting
  • Manage the communications budget and external vendor relationships

Content Leadership & Execution

  • Lead development of major campaign messaging and narrative themes
  • Write and edit high-impact copy across core channels, including email, web, and flagship communications
  • Direct story development and long-form content initiatives
  • Own the editorial vision, manage the production workflow, and delivery of The Laurel (magazine publication) from planning through final publication
  • Develop foundational digital assets and messaging frameworks prior to execution handoff
  • Ensure clarity, tone, and consistency across all communications

Brand Management

  • Enforce brand standards and voice
  • Manage licensing, royalty agreements and trademarks

Ownership

This position holds direct accountability for:

  • The communications roadmap
  • Campaign messaging and narrative direction
  • Master content calendar governance
  • Core written communications across primary channels
  • Website messaging, strategy, and major updates
  • Flagship publication quality and consistency
  • Monthly reporting dashboards and performance analysis
  • Communications budget planning and vendor oversight
  • Editorial direction and production timeline execution for The Laurel (magazine publication)

Experience & Background

We are seeking candidates with experience operating in dynamic, content-driven environments where frequent publishing, campaign execution, and strong storytelling are essential. Membership in Phi Kappa Tau is beneficial, though not required.

  • Consumer or lifestyle brands
  • Retail or e-commerce organizations
  • Media or publishing environments

Ideal candidates bring:

  • 3–5+ years of marketing or communications experience
  • A track record of building and executing multi-channel campaigns
  • Demonstrated strength in writing and editorial leadership
  • Experience managing external vendors and creative partners
  • Comfort balancing strategic planning with direct content creation
  • Candidates should be prepared to share writing samples and examples of marketing plans and campaigns they personally led and executed.
