The new event dates for the Hobart Schools Triathlon Challenge Events are as below:
Wednesday 5th December – Secondary Schools & Colleges
Thursday 6th December – Primary Schools
Schools have been advised of this earlier today and will sort out new arrangements, there will no doubt be unavoidable clashes with prior commitments, but please work through these at school level
I am extremely happy that with wonderful support from Blundstone Arena Management, Clarence City Council, Tasmania Police and all event suppliers, officials etc etc that these new dates have been able to be secured.
Hobart STC (Bellerive Beach) – Week 6 of Term 4
Secondary / College STC (Grades 7-12): Thursday 22nd November
Primary STC (Grades 3-6): Friday 23rd November
Devonport STC (Devonport Bluff) – Week 7 of Term 4
Secondary / College STC (Grades 7-12): Wednesday 28th November
Primary STC (Grades 3-6): Thursday 29th November
*Note: Devonport Show Day – Friday 30th Nov
Please be advised that due to current water conditions the Swim Leg of The Hobart STC events on Thursday and Friday have been cancelled. The Swim leg will be replaced with a run leg and students will be briefed prior to their event as usual to find out the information they need to complete the course.
So the show will go on as a Duathlon with the format being
Run / Ride / Run……all students who would have been doing the swim leg as an individual or in a relay team will need to have clothing and footwear suitable for a run leg and also bring your swim caps along so we can make it a colourful affair with a mass run start with swim caps on, Don’t forget to number mark your arms and legs in permanent marker
Heavy rain over the past weekend has resulted in a massive stormwater runoff across the entire Derwent Estuary, placing a heavier than normal loading on the beaches. Further rain/precipitation is predicted for tomorrow and Friday.
Department of Health and Human Services recommends against swimming at recreational water sites for three days following heavy rainfall. This advice is particularly pertinent at sites which are subject to significant urban run- off/presence of stormwater pipe infrastructure.
Consequently, Bellerive Beach will be closed to swimmers until further notice. Signage will be put in place at Bellerive Beach in accordance with Department of Health and Human Services Recreational Water Quality Guidelines 2007.
See you all tomorrow or Friday and lets embrace a slightly different format for our 10th anniversary event.
